Sherrie Knipe, sculptor, was born at the Gold Coast, Queensland, in 1970. She studied at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, completing a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Art) from 1988 to 1990 and a Graduate Diploma of Education in Secondary Teaching (Art and English) in 1992.

She attained a Masters of Fine Art (Sculpture) in 2006 and an Honorary Research Fellowship from 2007 to 2009 at Monash University, Melbourne.

Sherrie Knipe’s intricately carved wood and bronze sculptures are like quirky, three-dimensional jigsaw puzzles made up of ‘useful’ objects that she manipulates and rejuvenates into the seemingly ‘useless’.

Often involving a distortion of scale, the puzzle pieces range from ordinary household items such as crockery, pegs or buttons, to tiny pieces of nature such as leaves, twigs or fish.
